Bark - Cochineal & Madder
  • Bark - Cochineal & Madder

This lightweight organic merino wool scarf is dyed with madder root and cochineal, and can be worn as warm winter scarf or as a summer shawl.

The scarf was first dyed with madder, and then the cloth was tied around a cyclinder and bunched up using the traditional Japenese 'Arashi' technique. The cloth was then dyed in cochineal to give the darker striped pattern. This is a time-consuming technique and I am only able to make one scarf in this way at a time, so each piece is totally unique with it's own character.

This scarf measures approximately 1.5m by 45cm.
